Birthplace of Rivers National Monument

“West Virginia’s southern Monongahela National Forest has been a landscape treasured by local people for centuries. This section of the Allegheny Mountains possesses some of the most iconic natural features and best outdoor recreation in the eastern United States. Now, as the Mountain State prepares to celebrate its 150th year of existence, a special portion of this incredible landscape has the chance to be forever preserved as the Birthplace of Rivers National Monument. West Virginians are coming together in a collaborative effort to define a vision for this special designation, which honors our history, our landscape and a rich mountain culture. Preserving the area for they enjoyment of future generations ensures West Virginians and our visitors will always be able to experience the many uses people have enjoyed on these lands throughout history.”

Appeals court backs EPA’s veto of Spruce Mine  – News – The Charleston Gazette – West Virginia News and Sports –

” the appeals court said the Clean Water Act contains “unambiguous language” that “manifests the Congress’s intent to confer on EPA a broad veto power extending beyond the permit issuance.” Funny thing is that all three appeals court judges were George Bush appointees!!!!!

West Virginia Rivers Coalition, located in shadows of the Monongahela National Forest in Elkins, WV, is the statewide independent voice for clean water in West Virginia and a member of the choose clean water coalition.
